Official course measurement completed. Small updates for an even better running experience.
The Vienna City Marathon course is a great journey through the highlights of Vienna. From the start at Reichsbrücke, surrounded by the high-rises near UNO City, past iconic landmarks such as the Vienna State Opera, Schönbrunn Palace, and the museums, all the way to the finish on Ringstraße between Burgtheater and City Hall.
Along Prater Hauptallee, you follow in the footsteps of Eliud Kipchoge, who ran his sub-two-hour marathon here. Pure motivation and running spirit!
The correct distance of all VCM races has recently been officially measured according to AIMS standards, including the new Tchibo Coffee Run 10K.

Small course improvements on the second half of the marathon
In a few places on the second half of the marathon course, minor adjustments have been made compared to previous years to create an even better running experience.
Kilometer 22–24
Maria-Theresien-Straße & Roßauer Lände
New route:
After passing the Votive Church, runners continue straight along Maria-Theresien-Straße to the Danube Canal, turn left onto Roßauer Lände, and proceed towards Friedensbrücke.
Previous route:
Turn left onto Liechtensteinstraße and continue via Alserbachstraße to Friedensbrücke.
Advantage:
A straighter route with more space. The section along Alserbachstraße, where trams run parallel to the course during the marathon, is removed.
Kilometer 36–38
Schüttelstraße
New route:
Along Schüttelstraße towards Franzensbrücke (same section as km 6–8).
Previous route:
Via Lusthausstraße and Rustenschacherallee.
Advantage:
The road surface on Schüttelstraße is much smoother than on Rustenschacherallee. Since runners pass this section twice, it will also be ideal for a Cheering Zone – an ESC Mile celebrating the Eurovision Song Contest will bring great atmosphere there.
Powerade Relay Marathon – Hand-over Point 2
There is a slight change to Hand-over Point 2 of the Powerade Relay Marathon at Friedensbrücke.
The new location is now on Roßauer Lände at kilometer 23.5, before runners cross Friedensbrücke.
Previously, the exchange point was on Brigittenauer Lände on the opposite side of the Danube Canal. Due to construction works, this relocation was necessary.
Relay leg distances:
15.5 km – 8 km – 7 km – 11.695 km
Meiereistraße / Prater construction area
There are no changes to the course in this section (kilometers 5 & 35 as well as 30).
The Vienna public transport authority (Wiener Linien) is prepared to ensure that Meiereistraße and Stadionallee will be ready for the Vienna City Marathon on 19 April despite the ongoing construction works for the new tram line 18.
