A dream day at the first VCM winter run

Blue skies, pleasant running temperatures, a festive Christmas atmosphere and more than twice as many running enthusiasts as a year ago: it was a dream day at the 1st VCM Winter Run of the season in the Prater Hauptallee!

Congratulations to everyone who made it to the finish line!

Runners experienced pure running joy over 5 & 10 kilometres. Get going & boost your motivation, meet friends, build up your form for the VCM, burn a few calories before Christmas: You could do all of this at the VCM Winter Run.

The VCM winter running series has been organised since 2009 to motivate the running community and as preparation for the Vienna City Marathon. More than 31,000 finishers have already cheered at the finish line at these VCM Group events.

Running enthusiasm & top performances

The race also set sporting accents with some top performances. Over 10 km, Carolina Johnson from Sweden was faster than all the men and won in an outstanding 33:45 minutes (gross) ahead of Hanna Bruckmayer (34:24) and Larissa Matz, who set a new Austrian (ÖLV) U23 record in 34:55. Maximilian Pfeifer won the men's race in 33:53.

The 5-km run produced a thrilling sprint to the finish with ex-aequo scoring for the former marathon state champions Mario Bauernfeind and Martin Mistelbauer in 15:07 minutes ahead of Andreas Vojta, who incorporated the run into a longer training programme in 15:12 minutes.

Lisa Oberndorfer made a successful comeback after a long break due to illness to win the 5km in 16:51 minutes, as did obstacle specialist Lena Millonig in second place in 17:00 minutes, who was competing for the first time since June following an ankle injury.

The GetPica photo service was on site and captured all the runners and the event in the best possible way. The personal photos will be available on Monday. All participants will receive an email with their pictures for viewing & ordering.
