VCM Training Runs and Training Plans

We are really looking forward to tens of thousands of people running through our beautiful city on 6 April.

We are organising the VCM Training Runs every Tuesday until the Vienna City Marathon.

Just come along, enjoy the community and give your fitness a boost.

We train in eight groups for the marathon and Wiener Städtische half marathon at the VCM.

Our goal: A great marathon and Wiener Städtische half marathon at the VCM 2025! Together in a great community we can do it.

Programme for Tuesday, 14 January:

8-6 x 1,000 meters for Marathon | 5 x 1,000 meters for Half marathon

  • 2 min jogging in between
  • HIIT training for runners with the goal to “finish” (e.g. 30 seconds fast, 30 seconds easy) *

    Tempo zones | groups for the interval training: 
  • Target time 3:17 Marathon | 1:39 Half Marathon: 8-5 x 1,000m in 4:10-4:05 min
  • Target 3:30 | 1:45: 8-5 x 1,000m in 4:20 min 
  • Target 3:45 | 1:53: 8-5 x 1,000m in 4:20 min 
  • Target 4:00 | 2:00: 8-5 x 1,000m in 5:00 min 
  • Target 4:15 | 2:07: 8-5 x 1,000m in 5:30 min 
  • Target 4:30 | 2:15: 8-5 x 1,000m in 5:50 min 
  • Target 4:45 | 2:22: 6-5 x 1,000m in 6:10 min
  • "Finishing": 2 x 20 min HIIT - 30 sec fast & 30 sec easy


    We want to offer suitable training for a wide range of runners. However, running experience and a certain fitness level are also required for the ‘finishing’ group, as the HIIT sessions are demanding. 
     

VCM Training Runs 2024/25

  • Every Tuesday until the VCM
  • Starts at 6:30 PM
  • Meeting Point: Prater Hauptallee KM 2 / "Kipchoge Finish" / Stadionbad car park
  • Total duration:  approx. 1.5 hours, including warm-up & cool-down
  • Several pace groups with coaches from Sportordination
  • Participation free of charge

    Cloakroom

  • We can use the women's running container in the Stadionbad / Marathonweg area to store clothes.
  • The container is open from 18:15-18:25 and until 15 minutes after the end of training.

Pro tip: Here you can find 14-week training plans for 42.2 and 21.1 km at the Vienna City Marathon. They are in German language, but you'll get it.

Sports scientist Mike Koller's plans are tailored to the VCM Training Runs and the VCM Winter Running Series events. They are suitable for target times of 3:17-4:45 hours for the marathon and 1:39-2:22 hours for the Wiener Städtische half marathon.
