NEW Wardrobe Drop-off

With the registration start for the Vienna City Marathon 2026, we are introducing a new model for the wardrobe service.
You no longer drop off your clothing bag in the start area, but in the days before at the Expo or on Sunday morning at the finish.

After the run, you will receive your clothing bag back at the finish by showing your race number.

On Sunday, April 19, there is no possibility to drop off clothing at the start.

This way, on marathon day in the morning, you can time your journey to the start according to the exact start time of your block and don't have to arrive early in the start area because of clothing drop-off.

This applies to the marathon, Wiener Städtische half marathon and Powerade relay marathon events.

Please note:

  • You must book the wardrobe service in advance by March 16, 2026 for a price of 3 euros. This is possible in your personal VCM account of the registration system.
  • Without booking, no clothing drop-off is possible.
  • Subsequent bookings after March 16, 2026 are not possible.
  • Dropping off your wardrobe bag replaces the previous wardrobe transport on marathon Sunday at the start.

Drop-off Options:

  • Friday, April 17, 2026, VCM Expo, Marx Halle, 9:00 am to 7:00 pm
  • Saturday, April 18, 2026, VCM Expo, Marx Halle, 9:00 am to 6:00 pm
  • Sunday, April 19, 2026, from 6:30 AM, in the finish area / City Hall

Collection:

  • Sunday, April 19, 2026, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, in the finish area / City Hall
For relay runners too, collection takes place exclusively in the finish area. As before, there is no organized drop-off or collection at the relay handover points.

At the Start

Take old clothes with you to the start to keep warm before the race if necessary. We provide collection boxes for the reuse of textiles.

Of course, an accompanying person can come with you to the start, to whom you can hand over a clothing bag and whom you can meet again at the finish.

There is no wardrobe transport from start to finish on VCM Sunday!

Why are we doing this?

The logistics behind transporting the cloakroom with a very tight time window on Sunday morning, high participant numbers, and very limited space near the finish area became increasingly complex to implement in a reliable and safe way. The system came with several disadvantages and required a constantly rising, unsustainable use of resources.

The new model offers several advantages and eliminates weaknesses of the previous system:

  • The energy consumption caused by truck transport early Sunday morning is significantly reduced. The resource and energy expenditure from truck transports on Sunday morning is greatly reduced.
  • More space is available in the start area.
  • Runners’ flow at the start is improved, as they no longer need to stop at the cloakroom drop-off and can go straight to their starting block.
  • As a runner, you can time your journey to the start according to the exact start time of your block and don't need to travel early for clothing drop-off. This way you avoid long waiting times for the start. – The previous wardrobe trucks had to close acceptance by 8:30 AM because otherwise they had no possibility to drive to the finish.
  • The start lineup on Sunday morning overall becomes more relaxed.
  • Participants also previously needed cold protection or old clothes despite the wardrobe transport to avoid getting cold until the start.

Why does clothing drop-off cost extra?

We want to prepare the necessary capacities (space, personnel, trucks) in the spirit of a sustainable VCM as best as possible – not too much, not too little. With the contribution of 3 euros, there is commitment and planning security.

Around half of the participants have not used the wardrobe transport so far. With the new model, only those who actually use the wardrobe service pay a small contribution.

Thank you for your understanding!
