Unveilling of the INEOS 1:59 Pace Challenge
On September 27th, the world’s greatest marathon runner Eliud Kipchoge will return to the iconic tree-lined Prater Hauptallee in Vienna to unveil the first set of INEOS 1:59 Pace Challenge posts.
These iconic posts symbolise Eliud’s remarkable achievement where he shattered one of the greatest sporting barriers of our time to complete the world's first sub two-hour marathon.
It was a triumph of human performance, sports science, technology and it cemented Eliud’s mantra that NoHumanIsLimited.
Vienna, where Eliud ran into the history books four years ago, fittingly marks the first location for the INEOS 1:59 Pace Challenge posts, more posts are planned to be installed globally to represent key team members from the original challenge. They stand as a celebration of human achievement and a beacon of inspiration for people worldwide. Standing 352.6 metres apart, people in Vienna will be able to experience the challenge of matching Eliud’s pace and set their own 1 minute challenge as part of a digital global community.
To celebrate the unveiling of the posts, Eliud and INEOS are inviting 159 local runners in Vienna on September 27th to take on the inaugural INEOS 1:59 Pace Challenge.
Eliud sustained an incredible pace for a duration of 1 hour, 59 minutes and 40 seconds, redefining what is possible in the world of running. The INEOS 1:59 Pace Challenge is a global physical and digital challenge to train and work towards matching Eliud’s pace, to complete a 352.6m distance in under 1 minute.
“The INEOS 1:59 challenge has a special place in my heart, since then I have experienced that many people felt inspired to either start running or to take of the brakes in their heads and achieve what they want to achieve. I like to inspire people through running, therefore I ask runners to take on the challenge to run my pace from the 1:59 challenge.” - Eliud Kipchoge, Olympic Champions, world record holder and first person to break the sub two-hour marathon (1:59:40)
No matter your ability or experience, everyone is invited to be part of this incredible challenge, to prove to the world that NoHumanIsLimited. The INEOS 1:59 Pace Challenge launches globally on October 12th.
