MWith the Vienna City Card you can enjoy many tourist advantages and free travel on public transport. You can find more information under: www.viennacitycard.at
Registration is closed for all events is closed. There is no late entry, except for the Vienna 5K. Late registration for the Vienna 5K is possible on Friday, 21 April at Vienna Sports World as long as starting places are available. Late registration for the Vienna 5K on Saturday, 22 April at the Rathausplatz is only possible if there are still starting places available. We will inform about this on our channels.
Opening hours VCM Medical Center: Friday, 21 April, and Saturday, 22 April, 10-19.
Only runners with an official race number of one of the events of the Vienna City Marathon 2023 are allowed to start. The start number is non-transferable. It must be worn visibly on the chest and may not be changed.
For your safety, use the back page to provide health-related information and contact details of a contact person.
Timekeeping is done with an RFID chip in the start number. Wearing a start number with an integrated chip is a prerequisite for receiving a result.
Prohibition of passing on race numbers
If you are unable to start for any reason, do not give your race number to anyone else outside of the regular process. The start number is your personalised ticket to the VCM. The chip in your race number is used to measure your running time. In case of an emergency, the race number is the most important identification feature for the medical service in case of medical treatment. The start number is also the identification feature for the photo service, with which your photos are assigned to you. If you simply pass on your race number and someone else runs with it, you will falsify the sporting result and you can put yourself and other people in unpleasant and dangerous situations.
Rules of World Athletics and the Conditions of Participation and the Privacy Policy of the Vienna City Marathon apply.
The focus is on the common running experience, a friendly atmosphere and sporting fairness. Disqualification is possible in case of rule violations. Reasons for disqualification include: Starting under a false name or starting without a valid start number, changes to the start number, passing on a start number outside the regular process, participation with a start number that was passed on outside the regular process, starting from the wrong starting block, unsportsmanlike conduct, being accompanied by a vehicle (bicycle, motorbike, car, inline skates or other rolling equipment), participation with vehicles or rolling equipment, missing split times at the timekeeping checkpoints, participation with animals on the course, shortening the course, changing lanes during the first kilometres before reaching the Praterstern, violation of the sporting and technical rules of World Athletics as well as the anti-doping regulations.
Transfers to other persons are possible for the Marathon, Wiener Städtische Half Marathon and Powerade Relay Marathon (changes in the relay team) for a processing fee of 20,- € at the bib issue. Please contact the Help Desk with your race number.
Please collect your race number first and then come to the help desk. If the new runner has a power of attorney with him/her, he/she can pick up the starting documents and transfer the starting place to you with your declaration of consent. Then you don't have to be there yourself.
Find the power of attorney HERE.
To accompany and motivate the end of the field, there will be official tail runners at all events on Saturday and Sunday who will run and support you to the finish line.
We offer the possibility to engrave medals (name + net time) on Saturday and Sunday after the finish. The order and payment was made online before the event. You can still order your medal engraving on the VCM weekend at the Expo and at the finish area at the Rathausplatz. The prices are 13,- for the Sunday events and 9,- Euro for The Daily Mile 800 / 1600 on Saturday. No medal engraving is possible for the Vienna 5K. There is no engraving option at any time other than immediately after the race.

Think about the best way to get to the start: by public transport, on foot, by bike or, if necessary, by car (to Park & Ride facilities close the subway U2 in 1220 Vienna).
The most important way to get there is the underground line U1 with the stations Vienna International Center and Alte Donau.
The WienMobil App for Android and iPhones supports your journey planning. The start number is not valid as a ticket.
It may be more convenient for you to take alternative routes to the U1 underground line:
The underground lines U1, U2, U3 and U4 will run at shorter intervals on 23 April. Instead of five-minute intervals, the most important feeder line U1 will run at two-and-a-half-minute intervals. To make this possible, 30 underground drivers will reinforce the existing team on Sunday.
If there is a foreseeable increase in the number of passengers at individual stations, the underground trains do not stop and continue to the next station. The stations Donauinsel, Vienna International Center and Alte Donau are primarily affected by this event-related regulation. The passenger flows are controlled by Wiener Linien.
Notes on the start
Only use the VCM clothes bag that you received at the race number distribution. No bags, suitcases, trolleys, backpacks or similar. Stick the sticker for the cloakroom transport (identical to your start number), which you will find with your start documents, on the space provided on the cloakroom bag. Please note that without this sticker your clothes cannot be transported. Do not pack any valuables or fragile items. The organiser is not liable for any damage or loss. Your clothes will be taken to the finish area after the start of the race.
Drink isotonic drinks early enough, especially in warm weather.
The personal drinks provided by the marathon runners at the bib pick-up will be placed in second position (after the elite runners' refreshments).
Please make sure to throw empty beverage cups into the bins provided. MA 48 will set up "baffle walls" with painted targets so that you can dispose of your cup while running. The beverage cups are 100% recyclable. PET bottles are collected and recycled.
Here you can find all the information about refreshment points.
>> Map of field separation 20.3 km
Marathon runners and relay marathon runners should sort themselves out to the left at this point and continue straight ahead. This is marked by a blue arrow of the "Erste Bank".
Half marathon runners get into the right-hand lane and turn right into Bellariastraße. This is marked by a red arc of the "Wiener Städtische".
The relay handovers are sorted by number ranges (1-100, 101-200, ...) and clearly marked with signs.
If you need medical assistance, run or walk to the nearest aid station. If this is not possible, ask another runner to get help. If you see a runner on the course who you think needs help, report it to the nearest aid station. Or call the emergency number 144.

Discover the highlights of Vienna while running
From the start at Reichsbrücke to the finish on Ringstraße between Burgtheater and Rathausplatz: the Vienna City Marathon takes in Vienna's modern and historical highlights. A centrepiece is the legendary Prater Hauptallee, which was awarded "World Athletics Heritage" in 2022. It is precisely here that Eliud Kipchoge broke the magic sub-2 barrier and ran a marathon in 1:59:40.2 hours on 12 October 2019. A quarter of the VCM course runs over Kipchoge's 1:59 course.
The event offers running events for the whole family on two days. On Sunday, in addition to the marathon over 42.195 kilometres, a half marathon and a relay marathon will take place at the same time. Saturday is the day for children's races, for inclusion and for shorter distances.
Here you find detailed information about the refreshment points.
