Status 15.04.2022
We are looking forward to a great celebration of running joy at the Vienna City Marathon! The issue of Covid has been with us all for a long time, and it has not gone away. But fortunately the general situation and the legal situation are such that we can run and celebrate together based on some recommendations.
No proof of being vaccinated, recovered or tested is necessary for participation. As of 16 April, there will be no legal covid measures for events such as the run, the start number distribution and also in gastronomy.
Status from 16.04.2022
Covid rules Vienna at a glance: coronavirus.wien.gv.at/faq-english/#everydaylife
For entry into Austria please note that the so-called 3-G-rule applies. One must therefore show proof of vaccination, proof of recovery or proof of testing (e.g. PCR test or antigen test).
Also actively inform yourself about the details of the rules. We would of course implement any possible legal requirements that might apply in Austria and Vienna on 23 and 24 April.
As a participant you will receive these products with your race number:
Use these products for general hygiene and for your health. Coldamaris plus forms a protective barrier against cold viruses such as rhino and corona viruses. The application of Coldamaris plus forms a moisturising protective film. The Carragelose® contained in it envelops cold viruses and prevents them from adhering to the mucous membrane. It thus acts like a physical barrier against these viruses. Even though Coldamaris does not completely prevent infection with SARS-CoV-2, it can greatly reduce the risk of infection and virus spread.
Covid played a much bigger and longer role than we would have thought and wished for. We also had several absences in our team in the last few weeks, which we had to compensate for. We want to avoid infections of staff members shortly before the event at all costs. Because we have to be there at point X and get the marathon over the stage for you. The legal regulations have changed many times recently, fundamentally and often contradictory, which made our planning difficult again. The good thing is: The VCM takes place outdoors, the number of infections decreases and runners are responsible towards their health.
There are no restrictions for large events in Austria anymore. At the same time, we want to act responsibly as a running event where health is of central importance. We are in the area of tension between the lifting of all measures, a continuing difficult situation in hospitals and the endeavour to organise a setting where people feel good and safe. There is no big event with zero risk. In running, and thanks to the ever-shrinking numbers of infections, we can keep it low. In any case, the benefits in terms of enjoyment, distraction, health and atmosphere are huge. We are very much looking forward to it!
In order to get to the VCM as climate neutral as possible, we recommend the use of public transport such as ÖBB, Westbahn or bus lines. Information about ÖBB (Austrian Railways) offers can be found at www.railtours.at
In Vienna, the best way to get to the VCM and wherever you want is by public transport. You can find more information about timetables and ticket purchase here: www.wienerlinien.at
The WienMobil App for Android and iPhones supports your planning.
With the Vienna City Card you can enjoy many tourist benefits and free travel on public transport. You can find more information at: www.viennacitycard.at
Opening hours: Friday, 22 April, and Saturday, 23 April, both 10am-7pm.
Enter the name and phone number of a contact person online in your registration profile and/or use the back of your race number. If necessary, also enter personal medical information that could be helpful for the medical staff in case of an emergency (e.g. medication, allergies). You can also do this at the VCM Medical Center at the Vienna Sports World.
For your safety, use the reverse side to provide health-related data and contact details of a reference person.
Timekeeping is done with an RFID chip in the race number. Wearing a start number with an integrated chip is a prerequisite for receiving a result.
Prohibition of passing on start numbers
If you are unable to start for any reason, do not give your race number to anyone else. The race number is your personalised ticket for participation in the VCM. The chip in the race number is used to record your running time. In case of an emergency, the start number is the most important identification feature for the medical service in case of medical treatment. The start number is also the identification feature for the photo service, with which your photos are assigned to you. If you pass on your race number outside the regular process and another person runs with it, you will distort the sporting result and you can put yourself and other people in dangerous and unpleasant situations. In the case of a proven violation of the ban on passing on bibs, the VCM organisation may ban both runners from future events.
Disqualification
The following will lead to disqualification: Starting under a false name, starting from the wrong starting block, starting from the elite start, changing or not wearing the start number, unsportsmanlike conduct, being accompanied by a vehicle (bicycle, motorbike, motor vehicle, inline skates or other rolling equipment), bypassing the chip timing checkpoints, participation on inline skates or other rolling equipment, participation with animals.
The rules of World Athletics and the conditions of participation and the privacy policy of the Vienna City Marathon apply.
Medals & medal engraving
A few metres after the finish you will find the medal distribution for the finishers of all events. Please note that medals will not be sent on by post.
We offer the possibility to engrave medals (name + net time) on Saturday and Sunday after the finish. Ordering and payment is done online before the event. Late deciders can order an engraving at the race number collection point at a price of 12,- Euro for adults and 8,- Euro for children. Engraving is not possible at any other time than immediately after the race.
Photo & video service
FinisherPix will be on site with a large team to take photos of the participants of the marathon, half marathon, BMW relay marathon and Vienna 10K. Your photos and videos can be viewed online with your results the week after the race. Discounted pre-orders until 22 April 2022.
We ask everyone who lives or works in Vienna or has already arrived to collect their number on Friday. This way we and you can avoid longer waiting times.

Discover one of the most impressive cultural marathon routes in the world.
The Vienna City Marathon leads to the most impressive modern and historical sights of Vienna. You start on Wagramer Straße in modern Vienna, close to the "UNO-City", the seat of the United Nations, and finishes in the city centre in front of the Burgtheater.
Immediately after the start, the participants cross the river Danube on the 864-meter Reichsbrücke bridge towards the city center. You pass the huge Ferris wheel and run on the completely flat "Prater Hauptallee" (main avenue), which has been awarded with the prestigous World Athletics Heritage Plaque.. This is exactly where Eliud Kipchoge ran in 1:59:40.2 hours for the marathon distance on 12 October 2019. He became the first person to run a marathon under two hours. A quarter of the VCM course is on Kipchoge's 1:59 course.
The race continues along the Danube Canal to the Vienna Ringstrasse, past the Vienna State Opera, the arts center Secession and the Naschmarkt, through the Wiental Valley to Schönbrunn Palace, Austria's most visited tourist attraction. Still before the half marathon distance, you run through Vienna's most famous shopping street, Mariahilfer Straße. You see many of the most impressive museums, the Parliament, the University of Vienna and the "Votivkirche" while running along one of the most impressive cultural marathon routes in the world. The magnificent Ringstraße boulevard is your home stretch. You will reach the finish line directly in front of the Burgtheater with a view of the City Hall.
The finishing line in front of the Burgtheater is also the heart of all running events on Saturday.
The VCM route is also available in detail on the digital city map of www.wien.gv.at.
